Long Term Futures are recruiting for a patient, resilient and proactive Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a welcoming and supportive primary school in Tamworth, accessible from Birmingham City Centre, Nuneaton and Lichfield.
This role will involve working closely with a pupil with Autism and SEMH needs, supporting their engagement with learning, and positive behaviour development. The school is seeking a calm and consistent individual who can build a strong, trusting relationship and act as a behaviour mentor, assisting the pupil to feel safe and supported throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism and SEMH needs
- Acting as a positive behaviour mentor, supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing
- Implementing trauma-informed approaches to behaviour
- Supporting the pupil to access learning and remain engaged during lessons
- Building a safe, consistent and trusting relationship with the pupil
- Encouraging confidence, resilience and positive social interaction
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Team Teach training or positive handling training is desirable
- Calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour support
- Strong relationship-building skills and a positive attitude
- Ability to remain resilient and supportive in challenging situations
