Summary
Position: 1:1 Tutor - Maths & English
Location: BA22 (Yeovil area)
Start Date: 30th March
Hours: Mondays, 9:30-11:30 (2 hours per week)
Rate: £20 - £35 per hour
Type: SEND / SEMH Support - relationship‑focused, low‑demand learning

The young person has a diagnosis of ASD, ADHD, and a PDA profile, alongside trauma-based and school-related anxiety.
He learns best in a calm, low-pressure setting with lots of choice, flexibility, and connection.
- Providing 1:1 Maths & English tutoring
- Creating a safe, predictable, relationship‑centred learning environment
- Using low-demand, collaborative approaches suitable for PDA
- Incorporating interests to enhance engagement
- Adapting sessions depending on regulation and readiness
- Allowing movement breaks and flexible structure
- Building trust gradually through a nurturing, playful style
- Kind, patient, and nurturing
- Neurodiversity‑affirming
- Comfortable with indirect, non‑pressured approaches
- Creative and adaptable
- Experienced with ASD / ADHD / PDA
- Organised, dependable, and reflective
We are also recruiting multiple Tutors in Dorset, supporting young people with SEN / SEMH on a 1:1 basis.
- Plan and deliver engaging sessions tailored to each learner
- Assess and monitor progress
- Provide weekly feedback and progress reports
- Record attendance
- Build positive, trusting relationships
- Use creativity, empathy, and patience to support re-engagement
- Caring, patient, and understanding
- Knowledgeable in the National Curriculum
- Confident teaching English, Maths, or Science
- Experienced supporting learners with SEND / SEMH
- Organised, reliable, and adaptable
- Minimum 1 year of experience working in UK schools
- Experience supporting learners with SEN / SEMH
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
- Up-to-date safeguarding training (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to provide references
