Summary

We are currently looking for an Open Spaces Operative to join our Open Spaces Team at Thanet District Council. The role of Open Spaces Operative includes a range of grounds maintenance tasks across Thanet including grass cutting (ride-on and push mowers, strimmers), hedge cutting, weed control, maintaining beds and borders, as well as assisting with other tasks such as tree planting.

You need to be physically fit to undertake this manual role throughout the day, with a large amount of walking included. Previous experience in a similar grounds maintenance role, along with experience of driving a vehicle with a trailer is desirable, however, full training will be provided to the successful candidates (driving licence is essential). You will come in contact with open space visitors on a regular basis so you need to be able to deal with a range of enquiries including complaints. Importantly, you need to have a desire to make a difference to the residents and visitors of Thanet, along with a strong work ethic including to work in all weathers.

This is a great opportunity for someone that has previous experience in a similar role and/or has an interest in the outdoors and is willing to work hard to make a difference.

This is a full time position, working from the Open Spaces Depot in Margate. Working hours are set as 7.30am to 3.30pm (3pm Friday) with an unpaid 10 minute break and 20 minute lunch programmed into the day.

Thanet is a great place to live and work...

Our historic seaside towns of Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs and surrounding villages are rich in heritage and opportunity. With 19 miles of stunning coastline, our beautiful Blue Flag beaches, the internationally renowned Turner Contemporary, and the UK’s only Royal Harbour are all just a short train ride from central London thanks to the high-speed rail link. Our proximity to the port of Dover and the Eurotunnel at Folkestone mean Europe is literally on our doorstep too.

All of this, combined with a flexible approach to how we work makes it an exciting time to join Thanet District Council. We have set our sights high. We want our residents to enjoy the highest quality services. We want to ensure that by listening to local people, working in active partnership and doing things in an innovative way, we can accelerate improvement to meet the challenges ahead.
