The NIHR Norfolk Clinical Research Facility (CRF), located at the main hospital and the Quadram Institute (Norwich Research Park) is one of 28 NIHR – partly funded clinical research facilities networked across the UK.

Team NNUH’s Research and Development department have an opportunity for a Clinical Research Nurse/Practitioner within the Cancer team.

The team’s shared goal is; to undertake clinical research to improve treatment and care of patients here at NNUH and beyond. The ideal candidate will be dedicated and recognise the goal’s significance; as well as the importance of the Trust PRIDE values. Research is highly regulated; you should have an understanding of trial protocols and policies, and an awareness of research governance.

Because this post is for a time limited period, applicants who are currently employed by an NHS organisation will only be appointed on a secondment basis, please ensure you have spoken to your line manager and have their support prior to your application. As a Generation Band 7 Lead Research Nurse, you will take on the role of Principal Investigator (PI). The post will support the team of Band 6 midwives with the recruitment activity. As PI/Study Lead they will have senior clinical oversight, decision making and accountability necessary for the ongoing delivery of this high-profile research study.

You will have excellent communication skills with a positive and flexible approach to the workload. You should be a qualified Registered Nurse/Midwife and have research experience in a hospital setting.

Clinical Research is a highly regulated field, the role involves using an in-depth knowledge of trial protocols and their application in practice, alongside a working knowledge and compliance with the regulations. You should therefore have a good understanding of research procedures, documentation and policies, as well as an awareness of local, national and international research governance issues.

• Provide nursing and midwifery leadership and have responsibility and management for the day to day running of the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at the NNUH which includes the clinical responsibility and accountability for nursing and midwifery staff and non-regulated staff.
• Act as a credible role model in the conduct of Clinical Trials and other clinical research with understanding of the application of research within the clinical governance agenda.
• In collaboration with the Lead Research Nurses act as a contact for sponsor companies wishing to conduct clinical trials, assess local feasibility and capacity of new clinical research studies.
• To manage a caseload of concurrent research clinical studies involving a range of research methodologies including complex clinical trial protocols.
• Encourage and promote innovative practice especially with regard to participant recruitment and retention for the duration of Clinical Trials and either introduce or recommend remedial action if recruitment is below target or delayed.
• To lead in planning and managing the off-duty rota and allocation of work, taking into account the appropriate skill mix required for each area and trial.
• To take responsibility for the management of the bed/facilities booking system within CRF ensuring optimal use of all services and facilities.
• To ensure own practice is up-to-date and evidence based, undertaking relevant study and further education as identified through the personal development process or in response to changing service needs.
