About this opportunity

The Family Group Conference offers a specialised service which works with families to explore how they can work together to provide care for their child or children. It offers independent support to families to help them achieve long standing and successful change. We are looking for a person who is highly skilled in collaborating with families; to empower them to understand their own strengths and develop their own plan. If you think this could be you, please read below and do contact the recruiting manager, Finn Finlayson, if you have any further questions.

As a Family Group Conference co-ordinator, you will go out to meet families and their networks in accessible locations across Westmorland and Furness, and occasionally beyond the county boundary. Our Family Group Conference service encourages all family members, and their networks including children and young people to attend, contribute to and agree plans that make necessary changes to protect children. To do this the Family Group Conference coordinator needs to be creative to reach all family members, for instance developing genograms or ecomaps with family members and using different forms of media to reach estranged members of the family.

The role requires excellent communication skills including a high level of listening skills and the ability to build rapport with a range of people, including those who may have learning disabilities, poor mental health conditions and those struggling otherwise to embed change.

The candidate will need to have:

good negotiation and organisational skills
ability to deliver an evidence-based approach with fidelity to the original model
principles of strength-based empowerment to enable families to make safe decisions and plans for their children and young people
understand the benefits of involving carers/relatives/wider network of support to achieve success
ability to liaise with other professionals
Full training provided.
