Summary

Initial Assessment and Triage: Conducting thorough clinical assessments of children presenting to the ED. This includes history taking, physical examination, and prioritisation of cases based on severity. Diagnosis and Management: Making timely and accurate diagnoses in emergency situations, and formulating appropriate treatment plans for a wide variety of conditions. Clinical Decision-Making: Responsible for making decisions regarding the management of both acute and chronic paediatric conditions, often in high-pressure environments. Supervision and Support: Providing supervision and guidance to junior doctors (e.g., Foundation Year doctors, junior residents, medical students) in clinical duties. Middle grades may also supervise and support nursing and allied health staff in the management of children. Managing Acute Emergencies: Responding to and managing life-threatening emergencies such as trauma, respiratory failure, sepsis, or cardiac arrest. Consultations: Collaborating with or consulting senior clinicians (Consultants or ED Specialists) when complex cases or challenging situations arise. Clinical Procedures: Performing procedures such as intravenous cannulation, lumbar puncture, endotracheal intubation, or sedation in emergency settings as needed. Multidisciplinary Team Work: Working closely with other healthcare professionals, including pediatric specialists, radiologists, social workers, and paramedics, to ensure the best care for the child.
