Summary

Our client, a respected educational institution in Wandsworth, Greater London, is seeking a talented and dedicated Full-time BSL (British Sign Language) Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant and inclusive team. As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for providing vital support to our Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, ensuring they have the resources and assistance they need to thrive in their educational journey. Your primary duties will involve facilitating effective communication between students and teachers, interpreting lessons and discussions, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all learners.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Providing real-time BSL interpretation during classroom sessions, lectures, and school-wide events
- Assisting Deaf and hard-of-hearing students with note-taking, comprehension of course materials, and completion of assignments
- Collaborating with teachers to adapt lesson plans and teaching strategies to cater to the unique needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Offering one-on-one support and mentoring to students, helping them navigate the academic and social aspects of school life
- Maintaining accurate records of student progress and communicating regularly with teachers and parents/guardians
- Participating in staff training and professional development opportunities to continuously enhance your BSL skills and knowledge

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:
- A Level 3 or above qualification in British Sign Language, or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience working as a BSL interpreter or teaching assistant in an educational setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, teachers, and parents/guardians
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines
- A keen understanding of the unique challenges and needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, and a genuine passion for supporting their academic and personal growth
- Flexibility and adaptability, as you may be required to work with students of varying age groups and academic levels
- A commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all
