As a Building Fabric Operative in our Health team, you’ll help keep hospital environments safe, functioning, and fit for purpose. Your work ensures patients, visitors, and colleagues can rely on well‑maintained spaces every day.
You’ll play an important role in maintaining the fabric of our hospital buildings, carrying out repairs, maintenance, and improvements that support safe, high‑quality care for local communities. By keeping essential environments running smoothly, you’ll create meaningful impact where it matters most.
What you’ll do as a Building Fabric Operative
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Carry out reactive repairs, defect work, servicing, commissioning, and maintenance across a wide range of building fabric, plant, and equipment.
- Complete Planned Preventive Maintenance to ensure equipment remains safe and reliable.
- Work in line with Serco policies and procedures, Workplace Regulations, and best practice guidelines.
- Take a proactive approach to Health and Safety, contributing to safe systems of work and continuous improvement.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required and work responsibly with full regard for everyone’s safety.
- Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding unresolved faults, defects, and required spare parts.
- Attend on‑site and off‑site training as needed and complete any reasonable additional duties that fall within your skills and capabilities.
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- Level 2 NVQ or Level 2 National/Diploma Certificate.
- Proven experience working in a similar environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of building services.
- Working at height, ladder, and tower scaffold experience.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
Vetting and checks: An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
