Role Overview

The Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and compliance programs within the spas and hospitality environments. This role ensures a safe working environment for employees and a safe relaxing experience for guests while maintaining full compliance with local health regulations, hospitality standards, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local and national health and safety regulations.
  • Help to create and advise on regular risk assessments across spa facilities, guest areas, treatment rooms, kitchens, pools, and back-of-house areas.
  • Maintain up-to-date health & safety documentation and policies.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage inspections.
  • Train through new systems with staff and managers to ensure compliance is achieved

Risk Management

  • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain incident reporting and investigation procedures.
  • Conduct accident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Monitor high-risk areas such as wet zones, sauna/steam rooms, pools, and chemical storage areas.

Spa-Specific Safety Oversight

  • Ensure safe handling and storage of spa chemicals, oils, and cleaning products.
  • Oversee hygiene protocols for treatment rooms and therapy equipment.
  • Monitor water quality testing procedures for pools, hot tubs, and hydrotherapy facilities. Existing Knowledge of pools and spas would be helpful; however a training course can be provided as required
  • Ensure infection control standards are maintained.

Training & Awareness

  • Deliver health & safety induction training to new staff. This will involve travel to other sites as required
  • Provide ongoing safety training for therapists, housekeeping, kitchen staff, and maintenance teams.
  • Conduct fire drills and emergency response training with sites where it’s identified we are falling short of policy requirements
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all departments that you interact with

Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and update emergency response plans for sites
  • Coordinate fire safety systems testing and evacuation procedures where this doesn’t meet current requirements,
  • Act as lead contact during safety incidents.
  • Ensure first aid coverage and AED availability at sites is compliant and help sites identify what their first aid requirements are

Audit & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct internal audits and compliance checks using our H&S software and our Maintenance task software
  • Review policies regularly and update as required.
  • Track KPIs related to incidents, near-misses, RIDDORs and compliance.
  • Recommend constructive improvements to management.
  • Further tasks as the position develops as required

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Formal Qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field (preferred).
  • NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent health & safety certification.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in hospitality, spa, wellness, or hotel environment.
  • Strong knowledge of infection control and chemical handling especially in pool and spa environments
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and audits.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Access to a vehicle and hold a valid UK driving licence to visit other properties
