The Opportunity

Barnsley College is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Plastering Teacher to join our dynamic Construction department. This is an exciting opportunity to use your professional experience to support the next generation of plumbers as they develop the essential skills, knowledge and confidence required for a successful career in the industry.

Whether you are already teaching or currently working in the plumbing trade and looking for a new, rewarding direction, we welcome your application. If you do not yet hold a teaching qualification, we will support you to achieve a Level 5 teaching qualification as part of your role.

What You’ll Be Doing

As our Plastering Teacher, you will deliver engaging, practical and theory-based lessons across our modern workshop facilities and classroom environments. You will work with learners at a range of levels — from those taking their first steps into training, to apprentices and adults looking to develop or update their professional skills.

You will plan and deliver lessons, demonstrations and assessments while providing ongoing guidance and support to help students stay motivated, progress well and achieve their full potential. A key part of the role will involve monitoring progress, offering constructive feedback and creating a positive, well managed learning environment where students feel confident and safe to develop their craft.
Health and safety will be central to your practice, ensuring all workshop activities meet the required standards and that students understand and follow safe working procedures.

You will also collaborate closely with colleagues and Course Leaders to ensure the curriculum remains current, relevant and aligned with industry expectations. Your involvement in ongoing course development will help keep our teaching provision high-quality, up-to-date and reflective of the needs of employers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on learners while contributing to a supportive, forward-thinking Construction department.

About you

We are looking for a motivated and approachable plastering professional with a strong background in the trade. You should have hands-on experience across key plumbing skills and a solid understanding of industry standards, regulations and best practice.

You will be confident communicating with learners of different ages and experience levels and able to break down practical techniques and concepts in a clear, encouraging and accessible way. You should be organised, adaptable and committed to helping students succeed.

Experience in teaching or training is an advantage, but not essential. What matters most is your enthusiasm for the plastering industry and your desire to pass on your expertise to future professionals. If youu are supportive, dedicated to high-quality teaching and eager to collaborate with colleagues, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Required
• Teaching qualification (must be willing to work towards Level 5, if not already held)
• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 qualification)
• Relevant Level 3 qualification
• A minimum of 2 years relevant work experience

Closing date for applications is Tuesday, 17th March 2026. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early depending on the level of interest.
