Summary
About us
UCL is a globally recognised university and one of the UK's most successful higher education institutions. UCL Accommodation sits within UCL Estates and manages over 26 halls of residence, housing more than 6,500 students each year.
We are ambitious about the experience we provide. Our vision is to be a leading provider of student accommodation in the higher education sector, delivering a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment where students can thrive. Our halls are primarily located in Bloomsbury, close to campus, with additional residences in Camden and Victoria.
Across all of our sites, we are committed to strong community relationships, high safety standards and delivering a consistent, excellent service for our residents. Every member of the team plays a vital role in ensuring students feel supported, respected and at home.
About the role
We are recruiting for two Accommodation Advisors who will provide a professional front-of-house reception service while supporting a wide range of administrative and operational functions across our residences.
You will be a key point of contact for students, visitors, contractors and colleagues. Responsibilities include managing reception and key services, supporting student arrivals and departures, responding to queries and complaints, reporting maintenance issues, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with health and safety and data protection requirements.
The role also involves financial and system administration, including working with booking and resident management systems (such as StarRez), supporting rent processes, payment plans, and general record keeping. You will contribute to inspections, summer turnaround activity, and student experience initiatives, and may support social events in line with site rotas.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues across Accommodation, UCL Estates and other UCL teams to ensure high operational standards and a consistent student experience.
Working pattern
This is a full-time role (36.5 hours per week).
During term time, you will work five days per week between Monday and Saturday on a rota basis, covering shifts between 8.00am and 7.00pm Monday to Friday (8.00am-4.00pm or 11.00am-7.00pm) and 9.00am-5.00pm on Saturdays.
During the summer period, hours are worked on a rota of five days out of seven, typically 9.00am-5.00pm, including weekends. Time off in lieu will be provided where applicable in line with operational requirements.
Due to the nature of student residences, some evening, weekend or bank holiday working may be required.
Available roles
We are recruiting for two Accommodation Advisors to join us on a permanent basis.
Interviews will be held on 24th, 25th and 26th March.
About you
You will bring experience from a customer-facing environment and a genuine commitment to delivering an excellent service. You understand how to listen carefully, respond with empathy and professionalism, and remain calm and objective when dealing with complex or sensitive situations. You take pride in resolving queries efficiently and fairly, ensuring students and visitors feel supported and respected.
Alongside your customer focus, you will be confident in managing a varied administrative workload. You are highly organised, able to prioritise competing tasks and work at pace without compromising accuracy or attention to detail. Comfortable using Microsoft Office and administrative systems, you maintain accurate records and handle information sensitively and securely.
You are self-motivated and able to work independently, while also contributing positively as part of a wider team. You build effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners, demonstrate flexibility in your approach, and are willing to participate in a rota that includes weekend working. Above all, you bring a positive, collegiate attitude and a strong sense of personal responsibility for delivering a safe, welcoming and well-managed residential environment.
