Summary
Carry a specialist clinical caseload and provide a consultative/second opinion service to other therapists in area of specialty. Interpret and analyze clinical and non-clinical facts, which may be conflicting, to regularly provide expert advice and a second opinion to medical colleagues and other healthcare professionals. This includes the formulation of accurate prognoses, recommendation of best course of intervention and development of comprehensive discharge plans. Lead for the organization on the delivery of clinical services in specialist area and be the voice not only for Physiotherapy, but for other professional groups in this area. This will require a highly visible presence in clinical areas cross site and close links with patient services, staff, Associate Directors and Chiefs of Service. Provide expert opinion which informs the development of clinical pathways in collaboration with other multi-disciplinary teams. Manage clinical risk within own caseload at all times and ensure clinical risk is effectively managed. Communicate specialist information to a range of stakeholders both internally and externally which may require highly developed influencing and negotiation skills. Lead the Physiotherapy professional development within area of speciality and ensure evidence-based practice is incorporated into the service. Lead and evaluate necessary clinical policy changes within specialist area and provide specialist recommendations to local managers, Trust-wide, GP practices and national working parties.
