About the Role and our Ideal Candidate
The post holders will provide financial business partnering support to front line service areas, with some opportunities to work on both revenue and capital areas within services where relevant.
Our Senior Finance Officers are required to work flexibly in line with the business need, and the reasonable requests of senior management, to support the scrutiny and challenge of financial information provided by services. In carrying out their role, they are expected to facilitate sound financial management by Budget Managers, acting on behalf of the Finance Business Partnering (FBP) Management Team as required. They will be expected to deliver clear and focussed oral and written advice to Budget Managers as required, based on sound financial management principles.
The post holders will be expected to work towards building strong collaborative relationships across relevant services, to support the delivery of meaningful financial analysis underpinning business improvement and informed operational decisions, and to help support and strengthen the Council’s resilience to the financial challenges ahead. Working closely with finance colleagues within and outside of business partnering, you will help provide financial management support to service areas across the core financial cycle of budget setting, budget monitoring and Closing of the Council’s accounts as appropriate.
You will facilitate the efficient, timely and controlled processing of adjustments to budgets and actuals from virements and journals, and support the reconciliation of balance sheet items, helping to secure the accuracy of the accounting records. Working with Finance colleagues, the post holders will contribute to the management of financial risk to protect the financial health of the Council and help to ensure financial planning is robust and aligned to Council priorities.
