Summary
About the role:
We are seeking a highly organised, meticulous and proactive Exams Officer to play a key role in ensuring the smooth, secure and compliant delivery of all KS4 external examinations and assessments.
This is a vital position responsible for leading and administering all aspects of the external examinations process in line with JCQ and awarding body requirements. You will coordinate exam entries, oversee the secure handling and storage of examination materials, organise logistics including rooming and timetabling, and ensure that all regulatory procedures are followed precisely.
Working closely with curriculum leaders, centre managers and the SEND team, you will ensure that exam access arrangements are appropriately planned and implemented, maintain accurate records, and apply for special consideration where required. You will also support the Head of Centre during inspections, investigations or regulatory visits, and ensure that school policies remain fully up to date with annual changes in guidance.
The role requires excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and flexible under pressure, particularly during peak exam periods. You will build positive professional relationships with awarding bodies and external agencies, and ensure all exam processes are delivered with integrity and confidentiality.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience of exams administration — or a strong willingness to develop expertise — to make a meaningful impact within the Altus School community. This post is term time plus Inset days (39 weeks); the postholder will be required to work for 2 days during the summer holidays for the KS4 results and this time can be taken in lieu at other times during the school year. The post-holder will typically work 25 hours per week, these hours can be worked flexibly although during the exam period the expectation is that you will be on site on days when exams are occurring.About our school:
The Altus School is a local authority maintained alternative provision school, working with students from Year 1 through to Y11 who predominantly join us after a permanent exclusion from a mainstream setting. We are a supportive and nurturing school and place relationships at heart of all that we do to help our students flourish both in school and in the wider community. You can hear directly from our staff about what it is like to work at the school by looking at our website. You will be joining a challenging but ultimately hugely rewarding environment. Every day is different, you will develop strong working relationships both with students and your colleagues. Together, we make a real difference for our young people and families.
We are a growing school with 7 centres, plus our new primary satellite classroom in a mainstream school, across Gloucestershire. There are a wide range of opportunities to work collaboratively with colleagues across the school to plan and share best practice. In addition, you will benefit from a generous employee assistance scheme which includes health care, online sports and fitness and wellbeing support.
Closing date is Wednesday 18th March and interviews will be held 20th March 2026.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive a sufficient number of suitable applications. Early application is therefore advised.
We encourage visitors to the school to come and see us in action. You can contact Kate Williams to arrange a visit, please see our website for contact details.
