Summary

The Council’s Street Care Service is responsible for the cleanliness of the Borough of Chelmsford. This involves creating a cleaner, safer environment by reducing litter, removing fly tipping, graffiti and fly posting, and helping people feel safe and proud of the place where they live, work and visit.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to play a key role in helping us achieve improved cleanliness in accordance with national standards. Working on their own or as part of a team, the post holder will work with our dog bin and litter bin rounds, and use mechanical sweepers (non-HGV) where appropriate.

Based at our Freighter House depot, the post holder would normally be expected to work the following hours:

• 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 6am – 2pm and Friday 6am to 1:30pm

Some flexibility will be required, including earlier starts on occasions.

Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence that permits driving vehicles up to 7,500kg, as well as a Trailer Towing Certificate (or driving licence rights).

Please note should sufficient applications be received prior to the closing date, we may close the role for applications early.

Chelmsford City Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and expects all employees to share this commitment and have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services. The Council's Safer Recruitment process contains pre-employment checks which includes safeguarding training, obtaining references and ensuring compliance with Disclosure and Barring Service process.
