Summary
The post holder is responsible for ensuring the effective management ofWard 100 , Gastroenterology Wardover a 24-hour period. They will provide clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing team within the ward environment.
They will supervise the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, ensuring that nursing and corporate standards are maintained, monitored, and consistently achieved.
The post holder will be responsible for the appropriate deployment and supervision of staff to meet the needs of the gastroenterology patient caseload within Ward 100.
The post holder will provide senior nurse leadership within the ward and will deputise in the absence of the Matron.
The post holder is responsible for providing effective clinical, professional, and operational leadership within Ward 100 (Gastroenterology) over a 24-hour period. They will ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and evidence-based nursing care to patients with gastroenterology conditions by overseeing the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care. The post holder will ensure that all nursing practice complies with local, national, and professional standards, and will actively promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the ward environment.
The role involves overseeing the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, ensuring that all nursing and organisational standards are consistently upheld, monitored, and achieved.
The post holder will provide line management, leadership, and professional support to all ward staff, including responsibility for recruitment, induction, appraisal, performance management, and staff development. They will foster a positive team culture, promote staff wellbeing, and support learning and development through mentorship, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development opportunities. Where required, they will address performance or conduct concerns in accordance with organisational policies.
In addition, the post holder will ensure compliance with clinical governance and risk management frameworks, including the monitoring of incidents, complaints, audits, and quality improvement initiatives. They will ensure accurate and timely documentation, uphold infection prevention and control standards, and maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic ward environment. The post holder will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, act as a key liaison between the ward and senior nursing leadership, and deputise for the Matron in their absence, contributing to service development and the achievement of organisational objectives.
