Summary

Closing date: 15 March 2026

We are seeking Relief Deputy Registrars to support our busy and vibrant ceremony programme within Derbyshire Registration Service.

Our team delivers wedding and civil partnership ceremonies throughout the year, with peak demand between April and October. This interesting role is ideal if you can offer some availability on weekends or weekdays or a combination of both. We do not expect you to be available every weekend or every weekday and many of our Relief Deputy Registrars balance this role alongside other employment or commitments.

You will be based at one of our Registration Offices, so please indicate your preferred location on your application form. The offices where we currently have vacancies are:

Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton, Chesterfield, Ilkeston, Ripley and Swadlincote

We are looking for individuals who present a professional and smart appearance, are reliable, and can work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. You will be carrying out formal duties in accordance with the Birth, Death, Marriage and Civil Partnership Acts, representing the Registration Service at legal ceremonies and other statutory appointments.

Initially, your responsibilities will focus on assisting at ceremonies in our office Ceremony Rooms and at approved venues across Derbyshire. With further training and experience, there may be opportunities to progress to conducting ceremonies, and possibly to registering births and deaths, including all associated administrative tasks and office duties.

Please note:
This is a Relief position, meaning there are no guaranteed hours and no fixed working pattern. Work will be offered (4 - 6 weeks in advance) dependent on service needs.

There are certain disqualifications for appointment to Registration Service posts, please see below:
