This role is ideal for academically strong graduates who are passionate about literacy and want to develop their classroom practice before progressing into teacher training.
The Role
As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with experienced English teachers and pastoral teams to support teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping students develop their reading, writing, and analytical skills while reaching their academic potential.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing 1:1 and small-group academic support in English.
• Supporting classroom learning across English Language and English Literature lessons.
• Assisting teachers with lesson delivery, behaviour management, and organisation.
• Delivering targeted literacy intervention sessions to raise attainment and close learning gaps.
• Supporting students with additional learning needs and EHCPs where required.
• Monitoring student progress and contributing to assessment and feedback.
This role offers exceptional preparation for PGCE, Schools Direct, and salaried teacher training routes.
Person Specification
• A degree in English or a related field, such as English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing, Linguistics, or Education.
• A strong academic background and genuine passion for literacy and learning.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A professional, proactive, and resilient approach.
• The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
• A clear ambition to pursue a career in teaching or education.
