This is a 6-month fixed term locum post attracting 10 PA's per week. The colorectal unit at UHD is nationally renowned for minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery, pelvic floor surgery, specialist pelvic endometriosis surgery (delivered jointly with the gynaecologists) and advanced proctology (laser, HRA). The appointee will be expected to deliver independent specialised care across the breadth of colorectal and general surgery according to the needs of the service but will be expected to focus on supporting the severe endometriosis service, The High Resolution Anoscopy and Laser proctology service, the general surgical on call rota which will include managing paediatrics and trauma

The anticipated job plan will typically include up to 8 DCC of weekly activity:
• Cross site working between Bournemouth and Poole
• Participating as a full member of the consultant on call rota
• Covering the clinical activities for a consultant colorectal surgical colleague currently on sabbatical which includes subspeciality support for the UHD endometriosis service ( operating lists, outpatients, MDT and endoscopy)
• Support for the UHD HRA and laser service ( clinics, theatre sessions and endoscopy).

The working pattern will change at the end of July when the merger of Bournemouth and Poole Hospital’s is complete. Flexibility in activity for this interim period is an essential requirement.

This means that some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long term. Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have about this at interview.

There is a planned move for this service anticipated during 2026. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder’s home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.

As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality care across seven days, this post may involve participation in an out-of-hours rota, including evenings, weekends, and/or bank holidays, in accordance with service needs. Any work undertaken outside standard hours/PA’s will attract remuneration in line with the respective NHS Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service.
