Summary
A church media and music instruments role (often titled Worship & Media Director****Music Technician, or Technical Director) combines musical leadership with technical oversight of sound, lighting, and video systems. This position ensures that the technical aspects of a service—sound, lighting, media, and instruments—function properly to create a distraction-free worship experience.
Job Summary
The Media and Music Technician/Director will be responsible for the technical production of worship services, maintaining musical instruments, managing audio/visual (AV) equipment, and supporting the worship team in creating a high-quality, distraction-free environment for worship.
Primary Responsibilities
1) Music & Instrument Management
Maintenance: Ensure all musical instruments (pianos, organs, guitars, drums) are in good working order, tuned, and serviced regularly.
Setup: Prepare the stage for musicians, including setting up instruments, amplifiers, and microphones.
Coordination: Collaborate with the worship leader to ensure the music team has necessary gear, music sheets, or backing tracks.
2) Audio/Visual & Media Production
Sound Engineering: Perform proper line checks and sound checks (gain settings, monitor mixes, EQ) before services.
Live Mixing: Adjust sound levels during services, concerts, and special events.
Livestream & Recording: Manage the live-stream, ensuring high-quality audio and video for online, as well as recording services.
Visuals/Lighting: Oversee presentation software (e.g., ProPresenter) for lyrics, scripture, and video, as well as stage lighting.
3. Equipment & Inventory
Maintenance & Repair: Troubleshoot and fix faulty audio, video, and lighting equipment. Take broken equipment out of service and arrange repairs.
Inventory: Maintain an inventory of all media and musical equipment.
Budgeting: Assist in making recommendations for purchasing new technology to enhance the worship experience.
4) Leadership & Training
Volunteer Training: Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for audio, video, lighting, and media roles.
Team Collaboration: Work with the Pastor and Worship Leader to ensure technical needs are met.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise: Proficient in live sound mixing, digital soundboards, video production software (vMix, OBS), and lighting consoles.
Musical Aptitude: Strong musical ear and ability to understand the needs of a worship band.
Problem-Solving: Ability to think quickly and troubleshoot under pressure during live services.
Spiritual Maturity: A heart for worship and a commitment to the church's mission and vision.
Experience: Previous experience in a live church or production environment.
Working Conditions
Requires weekend work (Sunday services) and mid-week rehearsals.
Ability to lift and move audio/visual equipment and instruments.
