Summary
Hays are currently working with a specialist SEND Primary School to recruit a Level 2 Teaching Assistant for a year-long temporary contract. This School is a welcoming, nurturing and highly specialist setting located in Longsight, Manchester. The school provides places for children aged 4 to 11 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) identifying a need for specialist support.

The school is a community special school offering specialist provision for a wide range of needs including autism, speech and language difficulties, sensory needs, physical disabilities, severe and profound learning difficulties and complex medical needs.

Rate: Up to £120/day DOE
What You'll Be Doing:
Working under the direction of teaching and senior support staff, you will:
- Support pupils in accessing learning and reaching individual goals
- Provide specialist assistance linked to therapy, curriculum areas and personalised programmes
- Supervise small groups and occasionally whole classes when needed
- Deliver programmes of work and therapy interventions aligned with ILPs
- Provide targeted support for pupils with complex needs, ensuring safety and access to learning
- Support with personal care, hygiene, welfare, and minor first aid
- Assist with administering medication (with training)
- Support pupils during mainstream integration and work experience placements
- Liaise with therapists, medical teams and professionals
- Maintain pupil records and contribute to assessments
- Help with behaviour management strategies
What We're Looking For:
- Experience supporting pupils with special educational needs, including complex learning, communication, sensory or physical needs within a school or care environment
- Level 2 qualification (or equivalent qualification/relevant experience) in Supporting Teaching & Learning or childcare/education
- Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to SEN (desirable)
- Willingness to undertake additional training such as moving & handling, medical procedures, safeguarding, and hydrotherapy support
- Experience supporting behaviour management strategies
- Awareness of safeguarding, child protection and health & safety procedures in educational settings
- Ability to build warm, positive, professional relationships with pupils
- Ability to remain calm, patient and supportive in challenging or emotional situations
- Ability to handle personal care, physical support and manual handling tasks
