Summary
Role Summary / Statement
The post holder must have a firm understanding of trust wide issues and will lead the financial management of the division.
• Provision of information, guidance, support and advice to the Trusts managers and clinicians on issues relating to their service to enable them to plan, monitor and control the services within available resources.
• Strategic role alongside the General Manager and Clinical Director providing financial input into service wide decisions regarding strategic direction and management.
• Assist the development, implementation and embedding of Service Line Reporting (SLR) with managers and clinicians within the organisation.
• Implementing profitability analyses across the Group using SLR, utilising the Patient Level Costing (PLC) information available, ensuring they are used to maximise efficiency in the delivery of targets.
• Analyse the impact of Payment by Results (PbR) to both the Clinical and Non Clinical services, including cost apportionment, verification of cost allocation and impact of National Tariff. Ensure that managers and clinicians also understand the issues.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Reports the financial position for the Division to the Head of Financial Management. Involves detailed explanation of budget variances, forecasting future trends and accounting for funding from service developments
2. Leads on all financial aspects, as part of the management team for the Division. Provides an effective financial monitoring and reporting function to the budget holders and operational managers of the group.
Produces formal written and verbal reports to the Division, and supports managers in interpreting trends, managing financial risks and developing remedial action plans to improve financial performance
3.Works with clinicians and managers across the Trust to meet corporate financial objectives. Has responsibility for developing improved use of resources through ongoing benchmarking and efficiency review.
4. Works with the Trust commissioning team to ensure Service Level Agreements are robust and accurate, providing financial information for negotiations. May be required to negotiate or influence decisions in
the face of conflict.
5. Provides financial analysis / input into tendering decisions.
6. Detailed financial knowledge of the Division and Trust in order to ensure accurate and competent guidance can be offered to General managers and Service managers
The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.
