Position Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Import / Export Customs Coordinator to manage end-to-end import and export operations for road freight movements.
The successful candidate will ensure the timely, cost-effective, and fully compliant movement of goods in line with company procedures and HMRC/customs regulations. You will be responsible for preparing and processing import and export documentation, coordinating customs clearance, and liaising with customers, suppliers, and warehouse teams to ensure the efficient release and distribution of shipments.
Full compliance with all customs requirements must be maintained at all times. Experience with Cargowise is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Clearance- Coordinate with customs authorities to ensure the timely clearance of imported goods.
- Submit accurate customs declarations and supporting documentation.
- Facilitate the release of shipments from customs custody.
- Stay up to date with customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements.
- Ensure compliance with UK and international import/export legislation.
- Verify that goods meet all relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Manage pre-alerts and complete customs declarations via CDS.
- Process DEFRA and IPAFFS applications where required.
- Maintain accurate records in line with HMRC requirements.
- Experience using Cargowise is a strong advantage.
- Calculate and track import duties, taxes, and associated fees.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of customs charges to prevent delays or penalties.
- Liaise with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth movement of goods.
- Communicate delays, discrepancies, or issues promptly and clearly.
- Maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and resolve shipment-related issues.
- Take ownership of customer queries and escalate when necessary.
- Work quickly and effectively to implement solutions.

- Good understanding of HS code classification.
- Knowledge of temperature-controlled goods is advantageous.
Experience & Qualifications
- 1-2 years' experience in HMRC entry processing / CDS.
- Strong HS code classification knowledge.
- Basic understanding of PECH and DEFRA applications.
- Experience handling temperature-controlled products preferred.
