Summary
The post holder will practice as a highly skilled, autonomous clinician within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to elective and emergency cardiac surgical patients across the entire peri-operative pathway. This includes comprehensive assessment, clinical management, and continuity of care throughout the pre-operative and post-operative phases.
The role demands advanced clinical expertise, sound judgement, and confident decision-making to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised patient care. The successful candidate will uphold the highest standards of clinical excellence, patient safety, and governance, contributing to service development and continuous quality improvement in line with NHS values and best practice.

• Provide skilled assessment of elective and emergency patients before and after operations both within a variety of clinical settings including history taking, physical assessment and requesting, interpreting and acting on appropriate tests and investigations in a timely manner.
• To review urgent patients referred for vascular surgery within the trust and coordinate the urgent referrals from other NHS organisations. Communicating with the Senior Registers and Pre assessment team to manage and plan the patient in preparation for surgery.Demonstrate specialist knowledge of a wide range of vascular surgical procedures in order to provide excellent information to staff and patients, contributing to the informed consent process.
• Demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills relating to the impact of patient condition and co-morbidities in terms of outcomes and level of care required
• Demonstrate skills in a wide range of practical procedures including arterial blood gas estimation and blood culture, insertion of peripheral lines with the insertion of further invasive monitoring following advanced training, management of fluid balance and cardiac monitoring and prescribing of medication once qualified and registered as a non-medical prescriber with the NMC.
