Summary
Job Title: ITAD Operative (IT Asset Disposition Technician)
Role Overview
An ITAD Operative is responsible for the secure handling, processing, data sanitisation, and disposal or refurbishment of IT equipment in line with data protection, environmental, and company compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Handling & Processing
• Receive, log, and track incoming IT assets (laptops, desktops, servers, mobile devices).
• Sort equipment for reuse, refurbishment, resale, or recycling.
• Maintain accurate inventory records using asset management systems.
Data Security & Sanitisation
• Perform certified data wiping using approved software/tools.
• Physically destroy storage media when required.
• Ensure full compliance with data protection and security policies.
Testing & Refurbishment
• Diagnose and test IT equipment functionality.
• Repair or upgrade hardware components where possible.
• Prepare refurbished devices for resale or redeployment.
Compliance & Documentation
• Follow environmental and waste regulations.
• Complete chain-of-custody documentation.
• Maintain audit trails for all processed assets.
Logistics Support
• Assist with loading/unloading equipment.
• Prepare items for shipping or secure storage.
• Support warehouse organisation and stock control.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
• Basic IT hardware knowledge.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to follow security procedures.
• Good organisational skills.
• Physically able to handle equipment safely.
Desirable
• Experience in ITAD, recycling, or IT support roles.
• Knowledge of data wiping standards.
• Understanding of environmental compliance.
• Forklift (Reach) or warehouse experience.
Typical Working Environment
• Warehouse or secure processing facility.
• May involve manual handling and standing for extended periods.
