Summary

Expected Medical Education activity To contribute to the development, planning, delivery and monitoring of teaching for relevant medical school undergraduate students, working with the Undergraduate Tutors, Nurse Lead and Medical Education Faculty. Act as a direct source of educational advice offering guidance to clinical and medical staff on all aspects of the medical student programme. To agree and contribute to teaching programme design and be actively involved in the development and review of teaching material. To work with Lived Experience Educator, other service users and carers to develop workshops and teaching. Embedding service user experience with competences in knowledge and skills required by the individual medical school. To attend all operational meetings for the respective medical school and Nurse leads or provide update or report if unable to attend. To support the development of additional placements, i.e. SSCs, SSIPs. To undertake and evaluate at least one innovative medical education project or piece of quality improvement work and to present at least one poster at a regional or national conference. To provide regular input into areas of clinical need to support the inclusion of students in that team. This may include attending local service team meetings to disseminate and share information regarding the medical student programmes and offering support to clinicians to ensure the delivery of a positive learning experience to medical students. To support simulation teaching activities & be involved in facilitation, delivery and writing of simulation scenarios or projects run by the Medical Education Faculty and in collaboration with the Simulation Tutor. This currently includes Physical Health Emergencies in a Psychiatric Setting - RAMPPS - and other developed simulation teaching. To support Medical Education Faculty Events in terms of organisation and delivery. Monitor and formatively assess medical student performance in practice offering expert advice and feedback regarding their educational and professional development. To provide pastoral support to the differing medical student groups as required. To contribute to exam writing & standardisation processes within your respective medical schools. Clinical Activity These will be specific to the clinical service that the post will be attached to, however will include: Generic Perform clinical assessment of individuals with mental health problems, including history taking, mental state examination, physical examination Develop evaluation and formulation skills Assessment and management of psychiatric emergencies Understanding of pharmacological management of common mental health problems Develop interview and risk assessment skills Develop a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and its application Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including with non-medical prescribers Specific (Depending upon post): Assessment and management of individuals with mental illness Knowledge of pharmacological management of psychosis, including treatment- resistant and complex cases Develop an understanding of psychosocial interventions Have an appreciation of the importance of physical health issues in psychosis To assess, review and contribute to the management of inpatients. To join and contribute to ward rounds. Memory/outpatient clinic 1-2 new patients per week and 2-3 follow up patients per week are seen by trainee under supervision of consultant. To maintain up to date electronic and other medical records of high standard. To attend CPA/Care Coordination meetings. To provide support to CMHT and to see carers/relatives as required. Setting where work will be carried out (this will vary according to post) Inpatient Community ie Home visits Outpatient appointments Nursing Homes
