Summary

Head of Mammography – Band 8B

St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital & Newham Hospital

St Bartholomew’s Hospital is the oldest working hospital in the country, celebrating its 900-year anniversary in 2023. Located in the heart of the City of London, Barts Health is one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts, delivering specialist and world-leading care across multiple sites.

We are now seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Head of Mammography to join our dynamic Breast Imaging team and lead the delivery of high-quality Breast Imaging services across St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross and Newham Hospitals.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and influence a large, complex, and forward-thinking service supporting both symptomatic and screening breast pathways across North East London.

Key working relationships will include the Head of Diagnostics, Breast Clinical Lead, General Manager, Consultant Mammographers, Breast Radiologists, senior radiographic teams, physicists, nursing teams and other multidisciplinary colleagues.

The post-holder will be responsible for the strategic, operational and governance leadership of Breast Imaging across the network, ensuring safe, effective, patient-centred services. You will provide visible leadership, overseeing service performance, workforce development, compliance, quality improvement and the delivery of innovative modernised pathways. You will also support and supervise the training and development of Mammographers, Assistant Practitioners, students and wider staff working within Breast Imaging.

You will play a key role in driving high-quality patient care and experience through proactive service improvement, strong collaborative working, clear communication and responsive problem-solving. The successful applicant will also represent Breast Imaging at Trust, divisional and external committees, and contribute to research, audit and continuous service development.

The Breast Imaging network provides a comprehensive diagnostic service and supports the screening programme across North East London. The post-holder will demonstrate a breadth of specialist knowledge in Breast Imaging and ensure safe, efficient and effective operational delivery. They will drive service quality, governance, performance and workforce development, acting as a senior leader within the division and representing the service at Trust-wide level.

They will oversee training, supervision and performance monitoring for all relevant imaging staff, supporting excellence in education, staff progression and patient care. The post-holder will be instrumental in achieving financial, quality and workforce targets, collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure the service continues to modernise and remain responsive to patient need.

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.
