About the role

We are looking for a proactive and organised Waste & Cleansing Supervisor to lead frontline teams delivering high-profile recycling, refuse and street cleansing services across the borough.

You will play a vital role in ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest environmental standards while maintaining excellent customer service for residents, councillors and stakeholders.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role - ideal for someone who enjoys being out on site, solving problems and motivating teams to perform at their best.

What you are responsible for

Service Delivery & Performance
• Oversee daily recycling, refuse and street cleansing operations
• Ensure services run on time, safely and within budget
• Support the reduction of recycling contamination and improve environmental quality
• Allocate vehicles, plant and equipment effectively
• Support delivery of trade waste services where required

Team Leadership
• Supervise and motivate operational staff
• Conduct monitoring checks and toolbox talks
• Manage attendance, absence and performance issues
• Carry out 1-to-1s, appraisals and performance reviews
• Oversee agency staff in line with council procedures

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
• Respond to and resolve customer complaints
• Liaise with councillors and council departments
• Communicate professionally with the public
• Maintain a positive council image at all times

Compliance & Safety
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation
• Maintain accurate operational records and reports
• Take part in emergency and out-of-hours response rota

About You

You’ll need experience supervising operational teams in waste, cleansing or similar services with a strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and excellent organisational and time-management skills.

Alongside this you’ll have experience of working with a wide range of people, such as colleagues and the Public.

A flexible approach to working hours (including weekends and bank holidays) and a Full Driving License are also essential.
