Summary
The post will include 2 specialist migraine clinics per week, supported by 2 specialist nurses, and offering an extensive range of advanced migraine therapies including monoclonal antibody infusions, botulinum toxin injections, nerve blocks and access to surgical neuro-modulatory treatments.
The post also includes 1 general neurology clinic per week. Once a month you will deliver a neurology acute liaison day. For 2 weeks per year all activity will be replaced with being the neurology consultant providing cover to the general neurology ward.
General neurology and in-patient neurology is delivered from the £400 million state of the art Brunel Building.
The post-holder will join 30 consultant neurologists who collectively provide general neurology and broad a range of sub-specialist interests within the Department of Neurology at North Bristol Trust (NBT).
On call
The post holder will contribute to a 1 in 14 neurology on call service out of hours service and in order to maintain competence for this on call they will also provide approximately one DCC of stroke care within normal working hours.
Communications and Relationships:
The post holder will be expected to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues. The post holder will be empathetic and sensitive to patients needs and able to explain things clearly – particularly complex or sensitive information.
Responsibility for Patient Care:
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his or her charge and for the proper functioning of the service and will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the clinical department.
Responsibility for People Management:
The Post Holder will be expected to provide compassionate leadership to their clinical teams. This may include multi-agency teams within Primary and Secondary Care. They will be responsible for the supervision of junior staff within their team and will lead by example and with compassion.
Teaching and Supervision of Junior Medical Staff & Students:
We aim to support the development of all our doctors, whilst maintain an environment where patient and staff safety is paramount. A key element of that is ensuring high quality clinical and educational supervision.
Partnership working:
The post holder will be required to work in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines, external stakeholders and service users, to ensure the creation of a quality service.
