We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated new member of our team to work in the Oldham area of our Trust.
Your Orthoptic workload will be varied including paediatric and adult patients. We have an Orthoptic led school entry vision screening programme, we run a stroke service, work in the local special schools, hold LVA clinics and are involved in the Glaucoma team and have Orthoptic undergraduates in the department regularly.
We are community based with sessions at 10 different sites - you will therefore need to travel between clinics.
You will be expected to help develop and maintain a high quality Orthoptic service in line with recognised professional standards, care -pathways and best practice to deliver the business objectives in line with Trusts policies and service protocols.
We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated Orthoptist to work as an autonomous practitioner to undertake highly specialised orthoptic assessment, diagnosis and management of any patients referred to the Orthoptic department.
The successful candidate will join a supportive team of Orthoptists. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team including 6 Orthoptists, a screening technician, HCAs, 2 administrators and are closely linked to the Ophthalmology department consisting of Consultant Ophthalmologists (including specialists in paediatric, strabismus, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, glaucoma, Vitreal and medical retina) as well as technicians, nursing staff, ECLOs.
Assess, diagnose and treat patients within caseload with responsibility for clinical management and administrative organisation.
Involvement in audit/research within the department
Training of student Orthoptists in the practical skills and understanding of Orthoptics as part of the team.
To work autonomously as an advanced practitioner in undertaking specialised orthoptic assessment, diagnosis and management.
To become involved in one of our specialist areas of work – working with the band 7 lead for this area.
To be involved in the placements of undergraduate orthoptic students.
