Summary
We are looking for an experienced Cardiology Nurse to lead the cardioversion and associated arrhythmia service across York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals.
The role is based at York Hospital and serves patients from across the hospitals within the Trust. The role is 15 hours a week, which may be worked flexibly except for the scheduled cardioversion theatre slots.
Our successful candidate will be responsible for the nurse led cardioversion service, receiving and triage of referrals, pre-assessment, booking and running the cardioversion list twice a month. The post holder will also be required to perform associated arrhythmia services such as ajmaline studies, and organise device function checks in coordination with cardiorespiratory, when these are required.
You will be the first point of call for patients referred or following a cardioversion, they will be able to appropriately counsel patients about the procedure, appropriate medication and anticoagulation. They will consent the patient for procedure, admit and prepare the patients (with team support), carry out the procedure and ensure safe nurse led discharge with appropriate follow up arrangements organised.
INTERVIEWS FOR THIS POST WILL BE FACE TO FACE ONLY WITH NO REMOTE INTERVIEWS AVAILABLE
Triage referrals in order of clinical need, whilst being mindful of patients who have had a long wait time.
Book patients to the available lists in theatres on allocated cardioversion list dates.
Pre-assess, book, consent, admit, cardiovert, recover, discharge and book follow up tests / appointments.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of the multidisciplinary team.
Support nursing and medical staff in the safe management of DC Cardioversion, including skills sign off.
Working collaboratively with Cardiologists and Cardiology specialist nurses.
Supporting treatment plans, giving advice on symptom management and treatment of AF.
