Cleaning Operative (Full Time)

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Full Time Cleaning Operative to join our Soft Facilities Services team at HMP Peterborough.

This is a key role within a secure custodial environment, helping to maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic space for staff, prisoners, and visitors. You will follow a structured cleaning schedule across designated areas of the prison, ensuring consistently high standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Clean public areas, communal spaces, stairwells, and offices in line with a pre-determined schedule.

  • Empty waste receptacles daily and dispose of waste in accordance with internal procedures.

  • Clean floors, walls, doors, windows, and fixtures using approved methods and equipment.

  • Ensure appropriate signage is displayed and health and safety procedures are followed at all times.

  • Replenish cleaning stock and consumables within designated areas.

  • Work collaboratively with the cleaning team and support the Soft Services Manager in maintaining a safe and professional environment.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience in industrial or office cleaning.

  • Experience working to a structured cleaning schedule.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Self-motivated and able to work under pressure in a secure environment.

  • Knowledge of BICS, CPSS, or biohazard cleaning (desirable but not essential).

⚠️ Please note: The successful candidate will be subject toEnhanced Vetting Level 1 and DBS checks.

Package Description

  • £24,570 per annum

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

  • 37.5 hours per week
