Summary
Ready to play a key role in delivering construction and infrastructure projects, keeping multiple stakeholders aligned and momentum strong?
About us
Based on a 545-acre WWII airfield in Wroughton near Swindon, the Science & Innovation Park (SIP) is home to one of the world's preeminent collections of science, technology, transport, medicine and the media, housing more than 300,000 objects from the Science Museum's Collection. The site is made up of a number of hangars, purpose-built stores, large open areas, native woodlands, runways and one of the UK's largest solar farms.
We have an ambitious and exciting investment programme of construction works to ensure our collection is protected for generations to come. The programme will help improve the conditions of the storage facilities on site for our collection, build infrastructure resilience, enhance operational effectiveness and lower the museums' carbon footprint, while aiming to minimise the impact on the day-to-day operations of our colleagues working on the site. It's a challenging and fast-paced programme and an exciting time to join the team!
About the role
Reporting to a Capital Project Manager (PM), you will support the SIP Projects team in the delivery of a portfolio of larger, more complex construction projects across the SIP site through the complete lifecycle to agreed time, cost and quality standards.
In addition to this, you will manage your own portfolio of small-scale projects up to £250K through their project life cycle. In this context, you will be responsible for the delivery of the projects, with support and mentoring available from a PM and wider team as required.
Projects may be focussed on infrastructure improvement, or aimed at the maintenance, conservation and repair of buildings and landscapes. You will be required to work across multiple projects concurrently, help to ensure projects meet all relevant statutory requirements, and are fully compliant with all corporate policies and procedures
This is a fixed term 24-month contract and you will be working Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, based at our Science & Innovation Park in Swindon. You will be required to work on site minimum 4 days per week.
About you
We're looking for a motivated, positive and solutions-focused individual with a diligent approach to work and a willingness to learn. You'll be capable of handling a busy, fast-paced environment where priorities can shift and deadlines can be tight, while still maintaining good organisational skills and attention to detail. Comfortable collaborating with a wide range of internal stakeholders, subject specialists and external contractors, you'll bring effective interpersonal skills and the ability to keep projects moving forward when facing tight deadlines.
Experience supporting construction or infrastructure projects would be advantageous, particularly an understanding of contractor health and safety documentation, project reporting, financial processes or tools such as Microsoft Project, but we're equally open to candidates from other complex project environments who can demonstrate the ability to multitask, collate and communicate information clearly, and contribute to structured project delivery.
A basic awareness of project management principles, including areas such as procurement, scheduling, commercial controls, RIBA Plan of Work or CDM regulations, would be beneficial, though not essential. Above all, we're seeking someone who is values-driven and motivated to contribute to an open and inclusive organisation.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
