Summary

We are seeking a Technical Educator with broad technical experience and proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), in a conservation, environmental and/or biological sciences context.

You will take responsibility for the CHSS GIS suite, maintaining full service throughout the year and resolving issues if they occur, as well as keeping abreast of new functionality and emerging technologies.

You will provide ongoing instruction and support to GIS users and co design practical curricula, create lesson plans, exercises and learning materials that align with module and programme outcomes. You will teach small and large groups, assess students’ practical skills through competency based assessments and offer supportive, constructive feedback to help them progress,

Other responsibilities include preparation and delivery of laboratory and field work practical activities, maintaining and managing our specialist spaces and our fleet of scientific equipment and instrumentation, supporting student research projects, and supporting the management of Health, Safety and Wellbeing in our areas by preparing risk assessments and ensuring compliance with university and legal requirements.

This role is an exciting opportunity to expand your knowledge of GIS and GIS-adjacent technologies, explore emerging applications and services, and to evolve your confidence and expertise in teaching and instruction techniques.

About you
You will need strong GIS and geospatial skills, along with the confidence to support and teach others in a friendly, practical way. Good communication, a collaborative mindset and a genuine enjoyment of sharing your knowledge are essential.

Staying calm and focussed will be key when managing competing demands, such as planning and delivering sessions, supporting the wider team’s activities and helping students troubleshoot GIS issues.

This role is based on campus for all your time.
