An exciting opportunity has arisen in our team for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person with GIS, EO and Remote Sensing skills, with Geospatial data analysis, coding and management knowledge.
In this role, you will work closely with all the team members, supporting our projects, programmes and developing our spatial analysis capabilities.
Your work will involve:
Spatial data analysis, extensively with ESRI ArcGIS Pro along with development and automation of workflows using R/Python code and model builder. With a very good understanding of geospatial data, you will be working with different types and formats, such as file geodatabases, geopackages and advanced feature editing tools.
Geospatial data management, including data quality assurance, leading metadata standards resolving issues. Creation and management of relational databases, role profiles and access controls. A knowledge of Open data standards.
Using geoprocessing tools to perform spatial analysis of remote sensing data, including Lidar, aerial photography, satellite and hyperspectral systems. Work with point cloud formats, including classification, creation of elevation surface models, mosaic datasets and understanding use of optimal formats for performance and storage.
The team is moving to a Microsoft Azure Cloud environment, this role will be expected to develop an extensive relevant knowledge.
You’ll be able to demonstrate the ability to meet challenging deadlines and can provide technical training and support to fellow team members.
Responding to incidents is a core part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

The team
The Geomatics team, within National Monitoring Survey, provide a range of specialist services, to enable effective evidence to be used across the business. This includes collection and analysis of the highest quality Lidar, Aerial Photography, Bathymetry & Satellite data. The team works with National & Area teams to co-deliver all the monitoring requirements of the Environment Agency and the wider environmental community.
Experience/skills required
You will demonstrate you have a high level of competence in GIS, EO & Geospatial data analysis and management.
Proven advanced GIS skills including, for example using ESRI ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, and FME. Proven advanced coding, such as in R/Python. Desirable experience in GIS Enterprise systems, for example ESRI Enterprise.
Proven Geospatial data management experience including relational databases, formats, standards and quality assurance. Organising/managing/maintaining large volumes of raster datasets to ensure maximal accessibility to users. Desirable experience in configuration and management of SQL geodatabase server including role profiles and database schemas.
Remote sensing knowledge and experience. A good understanding of Lidar and optical remotely sensed data and related issues including spatial data accuracy / precision, spatial & temporal resolution, coordinate systems, transformation, editing, GNSS time and formats.
Desirable experience skills:
Microsoft Azure Cloud, an understanding of fundamentals.
Other developer skills, for example Microsoft Power Platform.
