Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the Melton Borough Council Housing Options team as a Housing Options Officer.

Purpose of the job:

To work in the housing options team and offer professional housing advice, assess housing needs and provide customer-focused service to families and individuals experiencing housing challenges.

A housing options officer seeks to relieve and prevent homelessness. They assess the needs of individuals facing housing challenges and make statutory decisions to secure housing that meets statutory guidelines.

The role will involve liaising with stakeholder and partners to help relieve homelessness such as social care teams, voluntary agencies, private landlords, and registered providers. The role will also involve liaising with safeguarding agencies to ensure the council responds proactively vulnerable people.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a service working towards reducing rough sleeping and ending cycles of homelessness in the Melton borough supporting people to access suitable accommodation.

The role involves conducting thorough assessments of clients' circumstances, understanding their needs, and offering appropriate advice and options. You will provide information on available housing services, private rentals, welfare and potential financial support schemes.

Additionally, you'll collaborate with other internal and external teams to ensure a comprehensive approach to housing support, aiming to improve the quality of life and stability for those seeking assistance. Your communication, problem-solving, and empathy skills will be essential in guiding individuals through the housing process and helping them secure suitable and sustainable living arrangements.

About You:

The successful candidate will be motivated with a passion for supporting people. You will be a team player but confident to work independently and have a flexible attitude to working under pressure. We are looking for someone with experience of working with homeless legislation specifically The Homeless Reduction Act 2017.

A thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of applications is key, and you will have a basic understanding of support and welfare needs of vulnerable people including criteria for Universal credit and Housing Benefit.

This opportunity would be ideal for an individual who can engage with vulnerable people and professionals and be able to communicate a person’s needs to fellow professionals.

They would liaise with stakeholders, arrange meetings and develop ideas that can add value to the wider team. At Melton Borough Council we are continually looking at how we can improve our service and processes and want someone to help us to deliver it!
