The Homelessness Reduction Act places strong duties upon local authorities to prevent and relieve homelessness.

We are looking for a positive and enthusiastic housing professional to help deliver this key area of the Council’s services and make a real difference to our customers.

The successful candidates will have relevant experience, and a practical outcome focussed approach. An understanding of the allocations process is also essential.

If successful for the position, your main duties will include, but are not restricted to: -

• Provide housing advice and support to help prevent or relieve homelessness in accordance with the Housing Act 1996 as amended by Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
• Carry out relevant investigations surrounding an applicant’s homelessness, housing needs, and circumstances and make decisions on what statutory duty may be owed to them
• Conduct assessments and develop the PHP and Housing needs assessment in line with guidance from the Homeless code of guidance
• Carry out relevant assessments to determine priority need and assess the requirement to provide interim accommodation in line with Section 188 of the Housing Act 1996.
• Review PHPs by advising and supporting applicants with appropriate actions to be taken to help prevent or resolve their homelessness
• Undertake recording of homeless prevention and relief cases for the purposes of data protection, audit, statistical analysis and government returns.
• Produce accurate Section 184 decision letters in a timely manner in line with legislationn whilst also ensuring that the relevant duties are discharged appropriately.
• Effectively engage with accommodation and support providers to help ensure the needs of the customers in terms of housing and support are met

Under Agile working, the successful candidate will be required to attend the office a minimum of 2 days a week. This will include working from either office at Leek or Buxton.

The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS Check.
