The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting Mechanical Fitters for contract opportunities with a leading rail rolling stock client based at their growing manufacturing facility in Crewe. This is an excellent opportunity to join a major rail programme with long-term work secured beyond 2026.
The site supports both new manufacturing and maintenance/overhaul activities operating in parallel, offering varied and technically engaging work. There is an immediate focus on HVAC overhaul projects, with urgent requirements for skilled mechanical operatives.
Key Responsibilities
Carrying out mechanical overhaul, maintenance and fitting activities on rolling stock systems
HVAC strip, inspection, overhaul and reassembly
Fault finding, component replacement and system testing
Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications
Ensuring all work is completed in line with safety and quality standards
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the production environment
Candidate Requirements
NVQ Level 3 in a Mechanical discipline (ideal)
NVQ Level 2 with strong, relevant experience will also be considered
Experience within rail, heavy engineering, aerospace, automotive, forces, plant, or other transferable mechanical environments welcomed
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Strong safety awareness and quality-focused approach
Desirable:
Dual-skilled operatives with an electrical bias (not essential)
Working Hours
Predominantly Dayshift
Flat 37-hour working week
Average working hours c. 42 per week (typically between 42–47 hours)
During production peaks, an additional 5 hours per week may be required (10 days’ notice typically provided)
Shift options include Dayshift, Morning Shift and Afternoon Shift, depending on business requirements.
