The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced GIS Analyst to join our GIS Team which is part of the wider Business Intelligence Service. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of high-quality spatial data, analysis, and automation that underpins key council services including planning, transport, environment and strategic decision-making.

In this role, you will work alongside other GIS Analysts to provide robust mapping and data transformation services for the Council. A core requirement of this role is practical experience using FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) to automate spatial data workflows, integrate datasets, and improve data quality and efficiency across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver GIS analysis, mapping and spatial data solutions to support council services and statutory functions.
• Design, develop, and maintain FME workflows to automate data transformation, validation, and integration.
• Manage, maintain, and improve spatial datasets ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with standards.
• Produce high-quality maps and spatial outputs for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support the development of GIS services, tools, and best practice across the Council.
• Work collaboratively with service teams to understand requirements and translate them into effective GIS solutions.

Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

This role falls into the category of Mobile/Field Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:

• 0-1 day in the office
• Includes field workers who primarily work remotely.
• Comes into the office for meetings or focused work. Virtual connections with the team are essential, with portable technology supporting work on the go.

About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about GIS, and who possesses the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria:
• Demonstrable experience working as a GIS Analyst or in a similar role.
• Hands-on experience using FME, including building and maintaining automated workflows.
• Strong experience with GIS Software (QGIS or equivalent platforms) and SQL.
• Experience managing, analysing, and visualising spatial data.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Strong organisational, problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Desirable Criteria:
• Experience working in a local authority or public-sector environment.
• Experience of FME Flow for data integration and automation.
• Knowledge of databases or spatial data services (WMS/WFS).
