Summary

A Vacancy at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.


The Trust is seeking a specialty doctor in general adult psychiatry to join The Bolton Referral & Assessment Service based at the Rivington Unit, Royal Bolton Hospital

The post holder will work closely with the Consultant and other team colleagues in the Bolton Referral & Assessment Service to develop a high quality, responsive, flexible and integrated service meeting the needs of its client group

Clinical Duties



Have knowledge and skills in the assessment of patients presenting with mental health disorders.


To be able to assess, formulate and manage risk (e.g. suicide risk, violence/aggression) relating to psychiatric conditions in outpatient settings.


To be able to formulate management plans in complex cases, advising the MDT.



Prescribing and giving advice to the team on psychotropic medication.



Have knowledge and skills in using both The Mental Health and Mental Capacity Acts and be able to give advice to others about the use of the acts.



The post holder will be required to seek approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983. If the post holder does not have Section 12 approval, the service will help in the acquisition of this approval.



To have an understanding the interface between physical illness and mental illness (e.g. comorbid mood disorders, medically unexplained symptoms, organic mental states).



The post holder may occasionally be called upon to do a physical health examination and perform venepuncture and ECGs and be able to interpret the results.



Provide support and ad hoc clinical supervision for junior doctors and the wider MDT working within the R&AH Team.



To be able to seek advice and support of senior psychiatric colleagues when dealing with complex situations outside of the postholders sphere of knowledge and skills.

Non-Clinical Duties


To provide medical leadership in R&AH team




To participate in supervision with line manager to further develop knowledge, skills and career.


Take part in CPD in the ring-fenced time in timetable and be in good standing for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists.


The post holder will be encouraged to join a local peer Personal Development Plan group to allow peer to peer supervision.



Remain up to date with mandatory training.



Attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.



Participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager to ensure that the post is developed to consider changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.



Participate in annual appraisal and maintain revalidation.



To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council.



To contribute to the development of the service in conjunction with other Team members. This will necessitate excellent influencing and joint working skills.



To participate in audit, service development and evaluation in collaboration with the Bolton Governance Team, and the Trust’s Research and Development Team.



Comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions.
