Summary
The Deputy Headteacher has a duty of care for all children placed in their care and overall management within the room they are based in. They are responsible for the overall line management within the room in order to ensure the legal and curriculum requirements are met in line with Montessori Schools policies and procedures.
Children’s Learning and Development
• A good knowledge of child development is essential to ensure that all the children’s individual needs are fully met
• They are responsible for ensuring all staff prepare and supervise suitable activities to create and develop a stimulating environment in order to provide a high level of quality childcare, whilst maintaining a professional and positive outcome for both children and staff.
• They are also responsible for communicating with the Headteacher regarding the
activities and progress in the room and coordinating the relevant short and medium-term planning in line with the business needs in order to meet the curriculum requirements.
• Good communication skills are imperative, this involves listening, questioning, and
understanding and responding to what is being communicated by children, young people and those caring for them. You will work as part of a multi-agency team and will be expected to have a clear understanding of your role and the role of other professionals. You will share information with other professionals in a timely manner and work together for the safety and well-being of the child. You will also be required to step up to the Headteacher’s role in the absence of the Headteacher.
• Promote a high level of quality childcare whilst maintaining a professional and positive outcome for both children and staff.
• A working knowledge of the Children’s Act & GDPR
• Is responsible for assisting the Headteacher with delegated managerial responsibilities including assisting in recruitment processes and ensuring that the nursery is a profitable business and provides a fun and safe environment for all children.
• Undertaking training in Health and Safety as necessary, both on appointment and as required in line with legislative changes.
• Following codes of safe working practices for both children and staff
• Reporting any concerns in relation to the wellbeing and safeguarding of children and staff as outlines in the company’s policies and procedures
• Coordinate plan and prioritise activities and progress in order to create and develop a stimulating environment.
• Ensure all staff are fully aware of their responsibilities in line with all policies and
procedures and legislative requirements.
• Support the Headteacher to ensure that the nursery complies with all aspects of various internal company audits and that any action points are addressed.
• Assist the Headteacher with the day to day management of the nurseries operation.
• Communicate with the Headteacher regarding the activities and progress in own room.
• Ensure all staff in the room prepare and supervise suitable activities to create and develop a stimulating environment.
• Assist with the monitoring and reviewing of employee’s performance including team members within own room.
• Assist in recruiting, retaining and developing all staff.
• In the absence of the Headteacher act as a nursery representative and attend meetings as requested by the Directors.
• Attend additional meetings such as OFSTED / Safeguarding as requested by the
Headteacher.
• Show potential parents around the nursery, ensuring a high level of sign-up to nursery places.
• Assist with the resolution of issues/queries/complaints to a satisfactory conclusion.
• Assist with the monitoring of the standards within the nursery to maximise the very
highest level of childcare.
• Assist with maintaining and improving the operational efficiency and quality of service of the nursery to ensure it remains a profitable business, including planning and carrying out effective marketing.
• Assist with providing effective training and development opportunities for all staff in
In order to stay compliant in line with legal requirements.
• Take sufficient care of all visitors, staff and parents to comply with legal
requirements.
• Undertake and partake in investigations and disciplinary hearings as and when required.
• Undertake other duties within the scope of the post as may be requested by the
Headteacher.
Salary: £30,000-£30,000

Note: As the post-holder develops, there will inevitably be some changes in the emphasis to the duties of the post. Montessori Schools expects that the post-holder will recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work and be willing to participate in CPD where necessary.
