Summary
A SEMH specialist secondary school in Havant is seeking calm, resilient and relationship‑focused Behaviour Support Workers to support secondary‑aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The provision supports young people who may have experienced disrupted education, trauma, anxiety, or challenges engaging in mainstream school, offering a structured and nurturing environment where they can rebuild confidence and re‑engage with learning.
This is a full‑time, permanent position, ideal for someone passionate about helping teenagers develop emotional resilience, positive behaviour strategies, and a sense of belonging through trust, consistency, and trauma‑informed practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing tailored behaviour and emotional support to KS3/KS4 pupils with SEMH needs
- Supporting young people who may display emotional dysregulation, anxiety, low self‑esteem, or challenging behaviour
- Using de‑escalation, restorative conversations, and trauma‑informed approaches to maintain a safe, calm environment
- Encouraging engagement through practical, creative, and therapeutic activities suited to each learner
- Promoting emotional wellbeing, positive routines, and pro‑social behaviour throughout the school day
- Helping pupils develop communication skills, emotional regulation, social interaction, and independence
- Building strong, trusting relationships through clear boundaries, consistency, and empathy
- Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral leads, and external agencies to deliver holistic, student‑centred support

- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract Type: Full‑time, Permanent
- Working Hours: 08:30 - 15:30
- Pay Rate: From £14 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have the Right to Work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child‑barred list DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply)
- Provide professional references covering the last 24 months
- Hold a Level 2/3 qualification in childcare, education, youth work, health & social care, or have relevant experience supporting young people with SEMH/SEN needs
