Summary
A kind, friendly, chatty Personal Assistant is required to support a man in his 50s who is living with Huntington’s disease. The successful applicant will play a key role in helping him maintain his independence and quality of life, providing practical and emotional support in a relaxed, respectful manner.
As a Personal Assistant, you will provide support in a range of areas including, but not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
• Providing reassurance, encouragement, and prompts with daily routines
• Supporting with personal hygiene, showering and getting dressed
• Assisting to maintain a safe and habitable home environment
• Undertaking light domestic duties
• Supporting with shopping, attending appointments, and accessing social opportunities
• Assisting with mobility, including manoeuvring a wheelchair when required
• Preparing light snacks and an evening meal
• Supporting with administrative tasks such as managing medical appointments and correspondence
Hours and Shift Pattern:
• The role is for 3 hours per day
• Shift times to be agreed, but will include preparation of the evening meal
Experience and Skills:
• Previous experience as a Personal Assistant is desirable but not essential
• Knowledge or experience with Huntington’s disease would be an advantage
• A friendly, approachable nature with a good sense of humour
• Strong communication skills
• Willingness to learn and adapt
• A genuine interest in supporting someone to remain independent
Additional Information:
• The individual is a smoker, however, he is encouraged not to smoke while the PAs are present, or to smoke by the back door.
• A driver with a clean driving license is essential
• This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references
