Summary

The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.

We are looking for a professional individual with knowledge and experience of different industrial sectors, to be responsible for the regulation of installations under the Environmental Permitting Regulations. You will ensure permit compliance, assess operator ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise the use of resources. This will involve site-based regulation and desk-based analysis and interpretation of environment data.

Although comprehensive technical skills are desirable, effective influencing and negotiating skills are essential to secure best practice. You will be able to deal with technical and different management levels within industry, local communities and other interested groups. You will be expected to respond to, investigate and undertake enforcement action to a range of non-compliances identified.

As a technical leader you will be expected to work autonomously, make decisions and engage others to support where needed. A full training and development programme will be available to enable you to carry out this regulatory role.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate. This may attract an additional payment, and full training will be available. Please see the candidate pack for information on how you'll support with this.

We want to create a diverse workplace where people are respected, valued and listened to. We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where jointly we all grow and learn together.

The team

You’ll join our Installations North Team regulating process industry in Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire; the predominant work area will be the highly industrialised South Humber Bank, together with the rural areas of Lincolnshire.

You will also support and advise other teams across the Area on industry sector regulation and compliance aspects.

As a senior member of the team, you will role model our organisation’s values, setting an example for other team members.

Experience/skills required

We are looking for someone who is professionally curious, proactive, self-motivated with excellent communication skills.

We are particularly interested in individuals who have experience or transferable skills within process industry, preferably in chemical or combustion.
