Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Community Paediatrician.

The successful candidate will have expertise in community-based and general paediatrics. We would be particularly interested in applicants with an interest in adoption. You will have the opportunity to work as part of the child protection rota undertaking medical assessments and working in the multi-agency team. You will have a regular clinic in the area of Northumberland and/ or North Tyneside with the possibility of a school based clinic.

We have a multi-disciplinary team approach within the Child Health Business Unit and the wider Trust. This is an opportunity to join an organisation in which Clinicians are at the forefront of management.

This post is for up to 10Programmed Activities (PAs) per week.

The post-holder will work as part of a team of eleven Consultant Community Paediatricians covering the Northumberland and North Tyneside areas. The Child protection rota is covered Monday to Friday from 9am -7pm offering medical assessments and working in conjunction with the two local children Services within the Children’s Unit at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. When on duty they will be supported by a team of paediatric nurses, nurse practitioners and junior doctors. This post doesnotinclude any resident overnight duties.

The outpatient clinic may include developmental, neuro-disability or general paediatric patients depending on the needs of the community at appointment. There will be the opportunity to undertake assessments of neuro-diverse presentations in partnership with the speech therapy team. There will be support to develop any area of specialist interest which matches the requirements of the service.

The post holder will have a role in the supervision and training of resident doctors, advanced clinical practitioners and medical students.
