Summary

Duties of the PostWarrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a full time ENT Consultant with asub specialism in Otology and/or Head and Neck to provide both elective and emergency care of ENT patients.The candidate appointed will work on both the Warrington and Halton hospital sites for both theatres andoutpatient clinics.This is a full-time post in ENT amounting to 10 PAs.Applicants are required to be a Registered Medical Practitioner, MBCHB or equivalent, to be fully registered withthe General Medical Council and listed on the Specialist Register or due to be registered within six months of thedate of appointment.Responsibilities of the PostResponsibilities for the new post will include supporting provision of emergency and elective activity in thedepartment. The post holder will be encouraged to develop sub-specialty interests in Head and Neck and/orOtology which will be supported by the CBU to ensure job satisfaction and sustainability of services.The current on call system has a commitment, of 1:4 (prospective cover) rota for weekdays and evenings atWarrington, and 1:10 rota for weekends (combined rota with Arrowe Park Hospital & Countess of ChesterHospitals) for ENT emergencies. Long term plans are in place to propose a change to the on-call commitments to1:4 weekday and weekends to cover Warrington and Halton only, once fully established with 4 ENT Consultants.The post requires clear vision, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to lead and coordinate the team. As well as theelective and emergency work, the successful applicants will be expected to develop their subspecialty interest andcomplement the sub-specialty interests of the existing consultants whilst meeting the needs of the local population.The appointee will be responsible for: Providing advice on complex clinical problems based on interdisciplinary principles. He/she should providesecond opinions for concerned patients at the request of consultant colleagues. Providing clinical care to patients referred to them. Working with colleagues to provide effective clinical leadership for all staff in the service. Contributing to and participating in the development of servicesTitle: Consultant ENT SurgeonResponsible to: Clinical Director Surgical specialitiesAccountable to: Medical DirectorChair: Steve McGuirk CBE DL QFSMChief Executive: Simon Constable FRCP Take an active part in continuing medical education including providing clinical training for junior staff andundergraduate students. Participate actively in audit and will be encouraged to pursue research and education activities. Be encouraged to participate in Trust, Regional and National developments to facilitate modernisation of thespeciality and enhance the profile and capability of the organisation for the benefit of patients and staff. Be encouraged to contribute to the management of the department with the objective of the continuedimprovement of the service. The successful applicant would be expected to take part in the MDT meetings on a weekly basis shouldhis/her specialist interest deem this necessary.Service DevelopmentActivities will include theatre sessions, outpatient clinics, and associated administration and SPA time. To maintainSPA, 2 personal audits per year will be expected. In addition to CPD, teaching, research appraisal & assessment oftrainees outside of DCCs will be expected.The job plan will consistent of the following DCC activities:4 Outpatient Clinics2 Theatre sessionsService Objectives for the New Post HolderThe post holder will be expected to support the general ENT service and will be encouraged to develop their own subspecialty
