Planning Manager
The Role
Join the @one Alliance, a collaboration of eight industry-leading companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska, and SWECO) delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. With AMP8 ahead, we’re gearing up for our biggest challenge yet, delivering an ambitious programme of projects that will shape the future of water infrastructure.
You will be providing strategic visibility of the Delivery Area’s portfolio, including Live and Future schemes, to the Senior Programme Manager regarding the performance of the portfolio of projects, including risks to delivery, opportunities, and resources.
You will actively lead the progression and development of and provide supervision to the other Planners in the team. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the Planning within that delivery team and be accountable for the same to the PMO Manager.
You and your team will maximise opportunities to deliver the projects on time, controlling all aspects of the delivery of projects on time, including change management, supply chain and resources throughout the life cycle of the projects on and off-site.
Experience working on large-scale or significant value projects within the Civil engineering sector, preferably in the Water Industry, including leading a team of Planners. P6 experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities
- You will be an integral part of the Delivery Area Senior Leadership Team, providing front line Planning support.
- Lead on the development and maintenance of a Portfolio of Projects.
- Take ownership of the Future & Live portfolio of schemes, ensuring alignment with delivery area workload demand and Client availability. Ensuring key dates align with the overall strategy and that Future schemes are seamlessly transitioned into Live schemes.
- Collaboratively work with the Delivery Area Senior Leadership Team to develop and drive the overall programme strategy for the Delivery Area.
- Ensure that robust, detailed project plans are collaboratively developed and maintained in accordance with @one and AW requirements.
- Ensure plans are resource-loaded, and the resource plan is maintained. Provide portfolio-level visibility of resources to the Delivery Area Senior Leadership Team.
- Proactively identify opportunities and risks in the plan and monitor the critical path and key milestones, advising the delivery team on any potential changes.
- Challenge the team to deliver on time.
- Communicate the effects of progress on key dates and challenge the team to deliver on time.
- Proactively advise the team on priorities to ensure optimal delivery of the Programme.
- Develop and provide reports giving overall strategic visibility of the Programme/Portfolio to the Delivery Area Senior Leadership Team to facilitate the decision-making process.
- Proactively identify, communicate, and manage risks and opportunities across the programme to ensure optimal delivery.
- Challenge the team to explore and exploit mitigations and opportunities.
- Drive adoption of innovative visualisation techniques, including 4D, Time Chainage, etc.
- Develop and maintain robust project plans aligned with @one Alliance and Anglian Water standards.
- Provide strategic insights, ensuring resource alignment and risk mitigation.
- Communicate key project milestones and progress to stakeholders.
- Drive a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Champion health, safety, and well-being across all planning activities.
Essential:
- Proven ability in leading planning on major projects
- Experience of working on water recycling/water projects
- P6 experience
- 4D planning experience
- Multidisciplinary experience and understanding
- Experience in leading collaborative planning processes
- Knowledge of current HSE requirements.
- Engineering and/or Project Management Qualification
- Ability to shape and implement the future Planning strategy
- Driving licence
