Position: Principal EC&I Engineer

Location: Warrington or Abingdon
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 2 days a week onsite
Contract Type: PERM
Salary: Competitive

Candidates must have 7-8 years in the nuclear industry.

Principal EC&I Design Engineer

This role will lead EC&I design activity within either a dedicated design team or a wider multi-disciplinary project environment. You'll contribute technical leadership across the full delivery lifecycle, from early concept through detailed design, manufacture, and commissioning, while ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide EC&I leadership on design projects, including planning, coordination, and technical assurance
  • Deliver EC&I engineering input when working within partner or framework teams
  • Support bid and tender activity, including technical content and documentation
  • Develop and manage EC&I cost estimates, schedules, and technical requirements
  • Translate customer needs and early concepts into practical, compliant design solutions
  • Present and defend designs at reviews and client-facing meetings
  • Produce high-quality engineering outputs aligned with applicable standards and procedures
  • Promote best practice in safety, security, and quality, setting the benchmark within the EC&I discipline
  • Actively contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge, adopting new tools, technologies, and approaches where beneficial
Experience & Qualifications
  • Around 8+ years' professional experience in EC&I design
  • BEng (Hons) in Electrical, Electronic, or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards
  • SC clearance held or willingness to obtain
  • Experience working in nuclear or other highly regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of EC&I integration within complex projects
  • Proven delivery across all phases of the design lifecycle
  • Knowledge of plant and documentation configuration control
  • Experience producing and reviewing EC&I designs, calculations, EMC assessments, and supporting documentation
  • Background in machinery and process plant systems, including obsolescence considerations
