Job Title: Trainee Leakage Detection Technician
Location: Dumfries & Galloway
Salary: Starting from £26,208
Hydrosave is a trusted leader in water network management, dedicated to saving water and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
Since 1994, we’ve combined technical excellence with innovative technologies to deliver smart, sustainable solutions across the
UK. Our expert teams specialise in leakage detection, asset health assessment, and smart monitoring, helping the water industry
and businesses access reliable, efficient services. As part of the South Staffordshire PLC Group, we benefit from shared expertise
and support, enabling us to drive continual improvement and deliver lasting value. At Hydrosave, we’re professional, approachable,
and committed to making a meaningful impact—now and for generations to come.
The Role:
As a Trainee Leakage Detection Technician, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Scotland’s leakage reduction targets by
identifying and locating leaks within the water network. This hands-on, field-based position offers variety and challenge — from
pinpointing complex leaks and quantifying leakage to validating previous findings at dry holes.
You’ll be part of a high-performing team that works with precision, pride, and purpose, knowing that your efforts directly
contribute to improved water efficiency, customer satisfaction, and environmental sustainability. Throughout your development,
you’ll learn to use industry-standard techniques and equipment while gaining essential qualifications and valuable on-the-job
experience.
This role offers a structured pathway into a technical career within the water industry, along with opportunities for weekend
overtime and flexibility to support a healthy work-life balance.
What you’ll do:
* Carry out leakage detection surveys across designated areas using approved methods and equipment.
* Assist experienced technicians in field activities while developing technical competence.
* Record and report findings accurately using handheld devices or relevant systems.
* Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe and serviceable condition.
* Comply with all health, safety, and environmental standards at all times.
* Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to meet performance targets.
* Participate in an ongoing training and development programme, completing required certifications.
What you’ll need:
Essential:
* Enthusiastic and willing to learn.
* Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Able to work independently once trained.
* Full, valid UK driving licence.
* Willing to undergo DBS checks and alcohol/drug screening.
Desirable:
* Previous experience in utilities, construction, or outdoor technical work.
* Basic understanding of water distribution networks.
* IT literacy and ability to use handheld devices or mapping software.
What you’ll get in return:
* Family-Friendly Leave
Enhanced Maternity, Adoption, Paternity & Shared Parental Leave, Fertility Support, and up to 5 paid Carer’s Days.
* Financial & Life Assurance
Life Assurance cover (role dependant) and a Company Pension Scheme with salary sacrifice options.
* Health & Wellbeing
Employee Assistance Programme (8 counselling sessions) and 24/7 Virtual GP access for you and your dependents.
* Lifestyle & Perks
Cycle to Work Scheme and My Premier Benefits discounts, cashback, and vouchers.
* Professional Development
Hands-on training and ongoing career development opportunities
* Inclusion & Belonging
Active People Networks – Disability & Neurodiversity, Unity+, Women’s Network, and more.
* Performance & Recognition
Annual salary review, Reward & Recognition Scheme, and Long Service Awards.
Why work at Hydrosave UK Ltd?
* Be part of a trusted name in the water industry with over 20 years of expertise.
* Work with cutting-edge detection technology and innovative methods.
* Opportunities for training, development, and progression.
* Competitive salary, allowances for working away, and overtime opportunities.
* A chance to make a real difference to the environment by reducing water loss and improving sustainability.
