Location: Havering
Working Pattern: On‑site
Contract Type: Temp / Ad‑hoc
Pay Rate: £30-£50 per hour
We are seeking an experienced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to provide specialist support for a year 11 student who holds a EHCP.
This role involves delivering targeted speech and language therapy within a school setting, including communication assessment, intervention planning, and joint working with vision specialists. You will play a key role in supporting the young person to access learning, develop functional communication skills, and build confidence within their sensory and social environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct an initial school visit to observe the young person in class and meet with the LSA supporting them.
- Deliver communication‑focused workshops tailored to the young person's language and social‑communication needs.
- Produce clear, structured written reports with intervention strategies, communication recommendations, and any necessary equipment or adaptations.
- Work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure consistent communication support across settings.
- Maintain high‑quality clinical documentation in line with professional, safeguarding, and organisational standards.
Requirements
- BSc/MSc in Speech and Language Therapy.
- HCPC registration (essential).
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with children or young people with SEND.
- Strong understanding of social communication needs, ASD, and language development.
- Confident in assessment, report writing, and delivering workshops/training.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
- Professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Desirable
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Experience working with visually impaired children or young people.
- Background supporting young people with ASD, sensory needs, or anxiety‑related communication difficulties.
- Experience working in educational or specialist school settings.
Additional Information
- Consultancy position with flexible scheduling.
- All safeguarding and vetting checks must be completed before starting.
- Travel to school sites within Havering will be required.
